Model No.: Z-103
Wrist Straps & ESD Footwear are the first line of defense against the build-up of electrostatic charges on the human body. They are designed to carry away this charge as soon as it is generated. At the same time, they must remain electrically safe for the user. Thus, it is important to test every wrist strap/footwear regularly.
In order to protect sensitive electronic components, the maximum wrist strap plus body resistance should not exceed 10 meg ohms and Footwear plus body resistance should not be more than 35 Mega ohms. Also, the resistance should be greater than 750 Kohms to ensure protection to the wearer from dangerous levels of voltage and current.
This is a combination Wriststrap and footwear tester which checks these parameters and gives a warning if the Wriststrap/ ESD Footwear is defective.
Power the instrument for use by opening the back cover to install a 9 volts battery.
For checking Wrist Strap:
Slide selector switch to Wrist strap position.
Connect the wrist strap cord to the instrument and with strap on the wrist, gently press the metal button on the instrument. The instrument will check whether the resistance of the wrist strap is within the acceptable range (750 kilo ohms 10 megohms). This is indicated by the LED lighting up GREEN.
For checking Footwear/Heel strap:
By adding the Footplate and optional Wall Station, the operator has the ability of measuring ESD safe footwear, heal and toe straps.
Slide selector switch to Footwear position.
Insert the foot plate cord in the instrument socket, step onto the footplate wearing the ESD footwear or Heel strap, and gently press the test button. The instrument will check whether the resistance of the footwear is within the acceptable range (750 kilo ohms – 35 meg ohms). This is indicated by the LED lighting up GREEN.
Note: It is advisable to place the footplate over a good insulator like an acrylic sheet and not directly on the floor for best results.
Used with care, this instrument will provide many years of trouble-free operation. Replace Battery if Low Battery LED lights. Please return it to factory for any servicing/calibration as it does not have any user serviceable parts. It can be cleaned with a soft dry cloth but never use solvents as they may damage the plastic case.
