To control electro static discharge (ESD) both equipment and person present need to be grounded (earthed). Anti static wrist band is one of the means of body grounding.
CONSTRICTION OF WRIST BAND:
A metal plate with an adjustable elastic band is connected with a coiled wire one end of which is connected to wrist band and other end is fitted with a pin and crocodile clip.
HOW TO USE WRIST BAND AND ITS FUNCTION:
The operator is to wear the elastic band to one of the hands with steel plate touching the body. The other end (crocodile clip) is to be connected to a known earth strip. Static charges generated during operator movements are grounded through wrist band and earth strip.
TESTING:
Use multimeter or any other instrument capable of measuring 20 M Ohms. To check the wrist band keep the selector at 20 M Ohms and touch one end of the probe to metal plate and other end to crocodile clip. The permissible values are 0.75 M Ohms to 10.0 M Ohms. The minimum resistance of 0.75 M Ohms is incorporated to give safety from electrical shocks.
