Digital Static Charge Meter

Model No.: Z-205

This meter is a non-contact, hand held, static monitoring and locating instrument. It utilises a precision LCD display to indicate the magnitude and polarity of the electrostatic charge.

The instrument has good directional sensitivity and is ideal for measuring electric charges encountered in critical electronic assembly and storage areas as well as Antistatic Work Stations. It can also be used for Plastics, Paper, Textiles, Food, Explosives and Pharmaceutical Industries.

The unit gives direct readings of electrostatic potentials on any surface, when held at a distance of 50 mm. However, range can be increased as explained below.

The use of very low current circuitry results in a long battery life of over 6 months under normal use. It also incorporates state-of-the-art circuitry, to enable measurements to be made for as long as 30 seconds without significant drift. In practice, measurement time is usually less than 10 seconds.

  1. Slide open battery cover, install a 9V battery inside and close cover.
  2. Switch ON the instrument, and Press the ZERO button to reset instrument.
  3. For accurate readings, person holding the meter should be grounded. This can be done by touching any grounded metal surface or even by bare feet in contact with the floor.
  4. Now from about 30cms distance, move instrument towards the surface or object and stop when the distance between front of the meter (i.e. sensor) and the object is 5cms.
  5. The reading on the display is the electrostatic potential on the object or surface.
  6. Maximum range is 10KV at 5cms. However, measurement range can be doubled, if reading is taken at 9cms. i.e. At 9cms, reading on display x 2 = actual Voltage

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS ARE ALSO ON THE BACK OF THE INSTRUMENT.

It is important to note that the accuracy of measurement depends on the following points.

  1. The size and shape of the object.
  2. The magnitude of the average charge distribution over the object’s surface.
  3. The predominating polarity of the charge since both polarities can be present at the same time.

MAINTENANCE

MAINTENANCE: Used with care, this instrument will provide many years of trouble-free operation. Replace Battery if “Low Batt” appears on display. Please return it to the factory for any servicing/ calibration as it does not have any user serviceable parts. It can be cleaned with a soft dry cloth but never use solvents as they may damage the plastic case.

CAUTION

This is a non-contact instrument. Please do not touch the sensor plate as it may cause failure.
